Institute presentation
The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at DUTH was founded in the late 1990s and is currently the top-ranked department in the area of genetics in Greece. The department has recently moved to a brand-new building with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, supported by a multi-million euro funds from the Greek government and the European Union. A particular strength of the department is a vibrant group in genetics, consisting of faculty members, specialising in different aspects of the discipline. The department has recently been recognised as a hub of innovation in the region (FP7 scheme Research Potential: Unlocking and developing the research potential in the EU´s convergence regions and outermost regions). Since 2010, and under the supervision of Dr. Paschou, DUTH is also the grant holder for the COST Action (European Cooperation in Science and Technology scheme) “European Network for the Study of Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome”, coordinating the activities of a network of investigators from 19 European countries in promoting research in the area of TS and related disorders towards a common pan-European direction and aiming to raise awareness about the disorder, educating the public and professionals (http://tourette-eu.org).
